About Me

From what started as a desire to deepen my own yoga practice back in 2019, has unexpectedly blossomed into a holistic and complimentary Passion Project.

In my twenties, I actively sought out yoga in a time when classes were rare, and DVDs were the primary means of access. Initially, my approach was purely physical, centered around strength and flexibility. However, it wasn’t until my thirties that I truly fell in love with the practice when I discovered a local teacher whose classes were dynamic, inspiring, and, as time would tell, unexpectedly life-changing.

Yoga Teacher Training

My first deep dive was a 250 hour Yoga Teacher Training course with Abode Yoga. To be completely honest, it was incredibly challenging and broke me on more than one occasion. Bearing my soul and opening myself up to vunrability did not come easy, to say the least. Battling with a nervous system that would batten down the hatches and sound the alarm at the mere hint of me having to talk, let alone share my feelings or have an opionion, and that was even before the gargantuan task of teaching a class! On our very first day, I remember how small I felt, how out of place and anxious.

As we went around the room and people introduced themselves, I could feel my body go into panic. I was no longer listening; my heart was racing, my hands were sweating. By the time it got to me, I barely got my name out of my mouth before my eyes started filling with water. It was embarrassing, but it sparked my curiosity.


Continued Personal Development (CPD)

Trauma Informed YTT

Once I completed the YTT, I felt the need to delve even deeper into understanding what was going on with me. I enrolled in a 80 hour CPD in Trauma Informed Yoga, and my mind was blown. Learning about the nervous system, polyvagal theory, and the effects of childhood trauma was eye-opening. It introduced me to experts like Gabor Maté and Bessel Van Der Kolk, as well as the beautiful benefits of somatic movement.

Reiki and Beyond

Not completely satisfied with all the navel-gazing, I wanted to continue to grow and develop the modalities I was drawn to. One of these was Reiki. I believe Reiki is a huge responsibility, and to use it respectfully to help other people, you need to be in the right place – physically, mentally, and emotionally – It took me a minute!

In 2022, I completed 100 hours Reiki level 2 that included Ayurveda and healing yoga. More recently I completed my Reiki Level 3, practitioner attunement, with the wonderful Jane Metcalf at Feel Good Holistic Training, hoping that one day, when I’m ready, I will become a Rieki Master myself to pass on this beautiful gift.

Yoga Anatomy and More

I delved deeper into yoga anatomy with an additional 30 hours training with Dr Yogi, as well as engaging in various workshops. I explored supporting students with common injuries and conditions. I delved into yoga therapy for lower back pain, as well as a special focus on the intricate mechanics of the knee. Understanding the the human body’s construction continues to be a source of fascination. I am grateful for the ongoing training I recieve as I learn from the wonderful individuals who come to class and share their challenges and reservations as we collectively navigate ways to move, adapt, and grow in our yoga practice.

Ayurvedic Yoga Massage

At some point along my journey, I heard about Ayurvedic Yoga Massage (AYM) and wondered – what is this magic you speak of?  I needed to know more and google did not disappoint, before I knew it, I was face down on a futon, four levels deep into the most amazing bodywork I have ever encountered.  This modality completed me and totally had me at hello! It became the catalyst that sparked the opening of Room 201 and undoubtedly changed my life forever.

I achieved a Level 4 qualification in March 2023, but this is a love story that deserves a little more time and attention. This weekend (07/10/2023) marks the beginning of a year-long journey into enhancing my skills and understanding the alchemy of this mind, body, and soul-melding modality. I look forward to sharing this magical modality with you.
