Instead, the emphasis is on the importance of embracing the journey, being present in the practice, and honouring each individual’s unique experience. By fostering a compassionate and non-judgmental environment, the aim is to create a space where individuals can explore, grow, and find their own authentic expression of yoga.
I’ve discovered that the biggest challenge in yoga is maintaining a consistent practice. Despite our best intentions, life’s fluctuations and shifts in mood can often leave us by the wayside. That’s why I encourage you to seize the moment and join a class whenever the inspiration strikes. Trust that over time, yoga and its many gifts will become a beautiful part of your life’s journey.
For me personally, the most profound gift that yoga has given me is ‘awareness’. My deepest hope is that you too will discover this invaluable treasure. Yoga introduces us to the awareness of ourselves, celebrating the unique beauty in how we each show up in the world. It unveils the subtleties and power of our breath, it guides us to explore how our nervous system responds, it illuminates the poetry of our body’s movements and the shifts in our moods. It all starts with awareness, cultivated on our mats, with a foundation of ‘Ahimsa’.
Ahimsa is the first of Patanjali’s Yamas (yoga’s ethical and moral guidelines) Directly translated as “non-violence”, we can also understand Ahimsa to mean non-harm, compassion, mercy, peace, and love towards all beings – starting with ourselves.
Bringing awareness with curiosity and compassion is where we start our practice.
We might all arrive at yoga class with a desire for greater flexibility, but the remarkable truth lies in our uniqueness. Each one of us experiences the transformative practice of yoga in our own extraordinary way.
